I worked in a clock shop for a while and used one of these professional grade silicone sealers. Nothing like that, the consistency is more like the silicone used to seal gaps in your window. The purpose of the sponge is to soak up the thin grease/grease that is keeping your seals from dying and not make a huge mess of gooey silicone! I've attached a picture of "Silicone Sealant" aka Sealant, essentially the same thing. The screw cap isn't a big deal as others have said because you can just twist it back. To return
