Review on Optimal Performance with the Cold Steel Leatherneck-SF, One Size by Mike Rubenstein

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My new favorite bushcraft/survival knife

This knife quickly became my new favorite bushcraft/survival knife, surpassing my SRK, Recon Tanto, Trail Master and Gerber Strongarm. It can handle big jobs like chopping and cleaving like the Trail Master but weighs about half as much and does fine carving and feathering just like the SRK and Strongarm, but with the benefit of a sturdy pommel that can be used with a hammer. Crush nails and tent poles, roots and nuts, shatter glass or smash rocks. This is an upgraded version of the venerable Ka-Bar marine knife with an improved, more ergonomic handle and a stronger shaft, handguard and pommel. And the Secure-X sheath is very well made and holds the knife securely without rattling and offers many attachment points for carrying on a belt or attaching to a backpack or vest. The only question to ask yourself is whether you should go for a classic bowie style tip or a tanto tip. I would definitely consider a tanto point if I didn't already have Recon Tanto.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
