Review on Sperry Instruments DM6410 Yellow Digital Multimeter – 8 Function, 600V AC/1000V DC: Reliable and Accurate Electrical Testing Tool by Butros Allen

Nice "cheap" counter, made in China of course, but they do some good stuff so don't swear right away, just don't be fooled a company address in it means USA, that it is a USA made meter, at this price it is not. The test leads are ok, good long leads and flexible enough and everything is jacketed as a Class II/III meter should be. The function knob has decent detents, but they're not precise enough to completely eliminate stops between modes. The buttons are decent, and the red mode button in the center of the button is a bit new and feels surprisingly quick. The extra large display is nice and easy to read, and the probe position reminder display makes it fairly reliable. The voltage, resistance, and current readings agree with my other meters and known sources, so they're accurate enough, at least for non-critical use. My major criticism of this meter so far is that its diode test feature only seems to work at 1.5 volts. This is not enough to successfully test most LEDs and many signal diodes. Not sure yet if I'll be returning it as the manual says the diode test should run at a much more usable 3.0V. The included battery is the cheapest, lowest quality. However, it is tested at 9.6V and if the battery voltage was low enough to affect the reading, it MUST display a low battery warning. I give it a new battery before throwing in the towel, but if the diode test doesn't work at more than 1.5v with a new battery I return it and buy something else. Update: Put a new good quality battery in the meter and the diode test function still doesn't work with an output voltage higher than 1.5 volts and can't test LEDs. I like the form factor and the large display, but for my diode test, it's an important feature, so I'll be returning the counter.
