Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Repticare 100W Infrared Ceramic Heat Emitter by Justin Jefferson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good for indoor heating, but not for heating.

I am a bit disappointed with this product. First, the first two I received had filament damage (the end of the filament was bent to one side, the filaments stuck together on one side, split on the opposite side) and they didn't fit in due to poor workmanship control or the manufacturer's packaging screwed the bracket. Luckily, Revain returns are hassle-free, and thanks to first class shipping, the whole process from the first lamp to the third took just a few days. When I finally had a working product, I was disappointed to find that it didn't really "radiate" everything. so much heat escapes from the underside. Lots of heat comes out, but to get the 90-95 hotspot I only had to position the bulb 4 inches above the hotspot, which doesn't work with the wire cage mount I have around the bulb, our turtle would too will not fit inside what is a reasonable or safe distance between it and the bulb. Maybe it works better in a dome type fixture, then you just have the problem of heat build-up in the dome, which seems less safe and likely shortens the life of both the lamp and fixture. It generally dissipates a lot of heat, it just doesn't stick right out of a flat surface, but it can heat an enclosed space well, it's just not a great space heater. ------------ Edit: I've been reading more about these types of lamps and how they're supposed to work. They appear to emit long infrared wavelengths that are absorbed by objects, causing the objects to self-heat, and while recommended for use with open-cage lights, they actually benefit from a reflective dome to reflect the waves back down to reflect. I'm not sure how to measure exactly how much heat is coming from a lightbulb since it heats different types of materials differently. It might be good to have a flat rock or something underneath that absorbs the waves well and will give you an indication of the temperature at an adjustable distance, although it is difficult to determine how close this is to the amount your reptile is eating picks up. Our tortoise is still in the open cage and doesn't seem to be heating up the air or substrate underneath that much, but our tortoise spends quite a bit of time underneath so it obviously feels the difference. Supposedly, a 100-watt lamp emits infrared radiation 10 inches below itself.
