Review on πŸ”’ TP-Link ER7206: Ultimate Multi-WAN Gigabit VPN Router with Enhanced Network Capacity by Jeremy Adams

The Omada Controller connects your Omada hotspots and provides access to the cloud to create a ubiquitous network.

Real name: Omada Controller, connects your Omada hotspots and provides access to the cloud to create an all-in-one network solution. I have installed these devices for several families in my area in combination with the EAP225. Access points and a PoE switch to power everything. Installing Omada is a great alternative to discounted Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Access Points and Switches. It's cheaper and works just as well. For a stay I would say this is a fantastic option. And it's easy to set up if you're experienced enough in the field to know it all. PRO: + cheap! It's possible to run on a computer instead, but at this price point, just set up a hardware controller, dammit. + PoE with Micro USB as an alternative power supply option. + super tiny! My god this thing is half the size of an 8 port switch (see my photo, it sits on top of a TP-Link switch and router) + Very easy connection to a PoE switch (1 cable for everything) + Supports 100 Omada access points, which is more than a home could ever need. CONS (none to be honest): - Not free (but there is free software that can be equivalent!) - Uses Micro-USB instead of Type-C (holy cow is a nitpick if I've ever heard of it). ) - Power cord not included? Only includes a short patch cable if you already have PoE or Micro-USB. - no mounting material for wall mounting included? - Doesn't include a sandwich to enjoy while building? - Probably not possible to mount the rack properly.

Pros
  • Numerous security features
Cons
  • Annoying
