I need a plastic-free bath brush. Since the wood is untreated I apply a few coats of meat block oil before use (to avoid bristles). I figured any wood oil or sealant would work, but I used what I had on hand. Yes, if it gets wet, it stinks for a while. Something like the smell of dead fish and dead people on the street. I won't lie, it's disgusting. I didn't smell it when it was dry and it didn't linger after I used it or it would be a deal breaker. Keep using it and the smell will go away - my brush doesn't smell anymore or it's so weak I don't notice it anymore. This is enough detergent to get the dirt out of the bathroom, but not too harsh. So far no loss of bristles and the handle has not snapped. Let dry bristles down and this should last a while. Overall I'm satisfied and will probably buy another one when this one wears out.
