Growing up in cold, damp England in the 1940's and 50's a hot water bottle was an absolute necessity, especially in a home that lacked central heating (or any kind of heat, for that matter, other than a coal fire in the living room). Even here in Colorado my wife complains about feeling cold, so I decided this item was just what she needed. I recommend reading the instructions, printed in red on the plastic bag it arrives in. It would be easy to discard the plastic bag in one's eagerness to try it out. As several other customers have reported the interior walls of the hot water bottle were stuck together when it arrived. Adding a little warm water and shaking it around quickly unstuck it, Water at our altitude boils around 92 degrees C or 197 degrees F, so I only had to wait 2-3 minutes after boiling to fill it (no more than two-thirds full; I did read the instructions). There was surprisingly very little rubbery smell, although hot water bottle from my childhood always smelled of rubber. I always found that comforting! So far I am very pleased with our purchase and hopefully it will stop my wife complaining about feeling cold.
