This filter is pretty darn simple and works great for the price. The sponge is very thin which I like and it actually sucks up quite well as I find most of the heavy debris in the gravel next to the sponges. The pump is a bit noisy although I don't have any others to compare it to so it might just be the standard. Disaster in your aquarium/house (e.g. flood, electrical problem, etc.). One thing to note is that while this model is a bit more streamlined and attached to the side of the tank, you will need to periodically remove the entire assembly to clean the glass. Some other models that just fit in the tank don't have this problem but take up more space in the tank.
