Review on Ecover Dishwasher Rinse Aid, 16 Ounce - Naturally Derived by Lauren Miller

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Contains Petroleum Products, Isopropanol, Ethanol; NOT entirely plant based

We bought this conditioner specifically because of the ecover brand and labeling for plant based ingredients. We got gastrointestinal issues after we started using this product which lasted about 3 weeks and it didn't occur to me to question the label but another family member searched the ecover website according to the ingredients. A picture of these ingredients is attached. As you can see there are a few petrochemicals as well as ethanol and isopropanol. Since there was a significant discrepancy between the label and the information on the website, I called and spoke to their customer service representatives. Whilst they are very helpful and friendly I confirmed that the information on the website regarding petrochemicals and isopropanol was correct. They also acknowledged that the label may need to be checked for corrections/updates. After that, they referred me to their safety and toxicology department, who advised that things like diarrhea and bloating shouldn't occur if the product is washed out in the dishwasher. during the cycle. However, we are faced with this. Although there may have been other factors in our case, they advised us to stop using this product and we agreed. It seemed to us that so far everything has improved at once. This rating does not mean that you will experience gastrointestinal issues from using the product, but it is important to note that the assumption that this product is 100% herbal, safe or non-toxic is incorrect and that these are Allegations likely are a result of FDA approvals for the use of these terms. As confirmed by the manufacturer, the product contains 2 petrochemicals obtained during the refining process, as well as medicinal alcohol (isopropanol) and denatured alcohol (ethanol). We have decided that these chemicals do not want to coat our crockery and cutlery at any concentration, so we no longer use them. I appreciate ecover's help and transparency on this matter and encourage them to strive to create a truly herbal product that we can one day safely use. I believe that the bio-based sophorolipids and decyl glucoside should be enough for this product to work well and it would be a good idea to eliminate the 4 dangerous elements.
