High Quality Commercial Household Coffee Maker

If you are looking for a premium coffee maker, you will be very satisfied with the Wilbur Curtis CAFE1DB. Make no mistake, this is a quality commercial machine that does one thing best: making coffee. Unlike all of Wilbur Curtis' other coffee makers, this one can be used at home as it is a 'pour' machine that does not require plumbing to be connected by a plumber. It's made in the USA and the craftsmanship is evident the moment you take it out of the box. You won't find any of the convenience features found in a home coffee maker. It doesn't have an automatic brew function (so no clock), it doesn't grind beans for you, or shut off the flow so you can remove the pot while brewing. However, I don't find this lack of features too inconvenient as it takes less than 3 minutes to brew an entire pot of coffee. The machine is able to do this because the 1550W heater keeps the water in the tank at a constant 200 degrees Fahrenheit. When you pour cold fresh water into the machine, it displaces the hot water in the tank and the brewing process occurs instantly. (There's not even a switch, the machine is always on as long as it's plugged in.) This is the CAFE1DB's advantage over domestic coffee makers: consumer machines typically have lower wattage heaters and need to start the brewing process with a cold water tank so the coffee never runs out gets as hot as a coffee shop - the Curtis machine constantly maintains a temperature of 200F in the tank, so the coffee brewed is always super hot. The downside to this, of course, is that the machine turns on the heater about every 10 minutes to keep the water hot, so power consumption is pretty much constant. I recommend unplugging the car when you travel or don't use the car every day. To me, it's worth it for the hot, delicious coffee this machine produces. (There is a switch for the hot plate so you can turn it on before cooking to preheat the coffee pot!) This machine does NOT come with a coffee mug so you will need to order this separately. Wilbur Curtis only sells them in packs of 3 to 24 pots, so I ordered the smallest pack of 3, which costs about $26. I've also replaced the plastic brewing cone that comes with the unit with a stainless steel cone that fits perfectly and looks fantastic (model number WC-3316). The brew cone is deeper than most consumer brew cones, so be sure to order a pack of CR-10 paper coffee filters, which fit perfectly. I would say if you want the best coffee and have a machine that will last long enough to pass down to your grandkids then you have come to the right place.
