
They use the homeplug AV2 standard while the AV600 uses the homeplug AV standard. The newer Standard had different frequencies and improved noise cancellation, which made a big difference in my noisy home. I installed a camera where I can't easily get a network cable. I've tried Wi-Fi connections, but they're not reliable enough for a security camera. Knowing that I only need about 2Mbps for HD video, I took the cheaper route and ordered the AV600 as 100Mbps is more than I need. Unfortunately my electrical wiring must be very noisy as the AV600s are not securely connected to each other. If they could see each other, the connection was so bad that the data couldn't follow the link. Here are some tips I've learned to get maximum performance: 1) Get the TPLink software (named tpPLC_Utility_Windows) by going to the product and then going to the Utilities tab. They also have a Mac version. Reboot after install, I could NOT get it to work until I rebooted my laptop. 2) Highlight your panel so you know which "half" you are connected to. In the US we have 240V electricity but it is split into two 120V "halves" (not really phases). In a typical American control panel, halves alternate with switches. Panel markers help ensure you're on the right page. (See my attached photo to see how I labeled the panel) 3) Set it up and make sure it works BEFORE enabling encryption! I couldn't get the devices to work when I first enabled encryption. Make sure they work before protecting them. 4) Use TPLINK utility to see how fast they connect to each other. Check the location and orientation in this way. 5) If you are getting low speed in your preferred location, turn the AV1000 upside down (ie the network connector is up, not down). Perfomance. Yes, I have confirmed that the outlets are correctly wired to hot and neutral. TPLINK/Homeplug claim data is sent over the neutral cable so I have no idea why it mattered, but for me it went from barely usable (48MB link speed, probably 2MB usable) to 200MB link speed and plenty of room for video -Streaming.
