The only way to know if it works is to look at the results. My koi spawn so are my master test results off the charts. Ammonia At 8 ppm the test is green. My water went from green to blue and has been there for 8 days and is still there. Amquel renders ammonia non-toxic to fish, but it is still registered as present in the test kit. At 8ppm plus it should be toxic but my fish are fine and spawning. Even with a 15% water change every day, I have to endure more, but I suck in buckets and water all my plants and grasses and they can't take any more. I will not waste water. All of this is to say that this should work because my koi are still alive. I use the product as directed and add it back to every water change but only for the amount of water that was changed unless they use it consistently then I give the recommended dosage just to be safe. So buy a gallon.
