Revainrating 5 out of 5

Yes! This tool was perfect for a VERY tough oil filter.

Went for an oil change Friday night and couldn't remove the oil filter. I only hand tighten them, but I must have forgotten to lubricate the gasket because that's where it melted. I've tried everything: a rubber band wrench, a metal band wrench, a box wrench, a PVC wrench, one of those rubber things that stick to the lid of a jar, sandpaper, and even desperately and pierced with an awl - it didn't move. I spent many hours (no exaggeration) and swearing trying to get rid of it. It didn't help that there was almost no room for the filter. My wife googled it and found this. It was the teeth that really made me choose it over other similar ones. Ordered it with one day basic shipping and received it by Sunday noon. I had doubts because nothing else worked. Boom - in less than 5 minutes I removed the filter. The way the teeth work and just grab the filter with your hand pulling the head out was the missing link for my other techniques that either didn't have enough room to implement or just slipped off (or in the case of the awl that Metal is so cheaper on the filters so just started cracking). If you are having trouble removing the filter, try the following. It's even worth spending money to have on hand BEFORE you start. I don't expect to ever run into this type of trouble again, but this will probably be my way of disabling the filter as it's just too easy compared to other tools I have in the limited space I have use is. work (thanks Honda for that). A few tips: if it doesn't stick, it's probably set the wrong way. That's how mine came. So it loosens up when you twist it instead of tightening it. Spread your teeth as wide as you can, and then rotate your hands behind your back in the opposite direction from their current position. Then you should be ready to go. DO NOT use this to put the filter back in place. You never need a wrench to put the filter back in place. You don't have to be so tight. Unless there are special circumstances, holding it firmly with your hand is sufficient for most cars, with a little extra force to push it down should be fine. Note that this requires a 1/2" drive. I have an adapter for my 3/8". Slot for this instrument. It worked more than well. I didn't find it necessary to use my 1/2". -to use socket wrenches for the job I was working on (and limited space didn't allow it) If you don't have an adapter you know you need one (mine is from Harbor Freight so it's cheap but works) .I won't forget. But if you do, this tool will get the job done. And no, I'm not sponsored to write this review or receive kickbacks. After many hours, many scratches, broken joints and bruises was I was just so excited to take the filter off and had to write this review to hopefully save someone else the frustration!
