Strong magnets - weak adhesion

I wanted to free up bathroom drawer space but I had all these toiletries lying around like nail clippers, tweezers, cuticle trimmers etc so I have these magnets on the inside of mine First-aid box door installed and the mentioned items fastened. It worked well. until this happened. The problem doesn't seem to be the holding power of the magnets themselves (it can actually be difficult to get them loose), but the strength of the 3M tape used to hold the magnets in place. Once the room temperature reached 80 degrees Fahrenheit, the tape lost its adhesion. Weight shouldn't be an issue, I'm talking nail clippers and tweezers not screwdrivers and hammers. And trust the seller when they say be careful with these little wonders as they are really fragile and will break if you bump them on something. I lost two of them to this accident and once they break they are no longer magnetically attracted to them. I also had to give bad marks for removing the remaining magnets that hadn't fallen yet and peeling off the useless tape that came with them. I replaced the supplied ribbon with the gray version of the 3M ribbon. I hope it gets better, but the coming summer heat will tell if duct tape works at all. If not, I'll take Gorilla Glue and make the install permanent for sure. ;-)

Pros
  • Rare earth magnets
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
