Review on ❄️ GE Refrigerator Ice Dispenser Damper Door WR17X11653 - Genuine OEM Replacement by Jonathan Olson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Thicker than the original valve and caused a sticking problem.

New valve design, black rubber part, now thicker than the original. I didn't notice at first. I've installed a new one a couple of times and had to check the solenoid and spring because it was stuck/open intermittently. It turned out to be stuck in the very pointed tip of the black rubber flap seal where the round ice chute exits the freezer door. I compared it to the old flap and found that the new one is thicker. I solved this by using scissors and cutting about a millimeter or two straight across the top of the black rubber gasket. As a result, the thicker rubber material no longer sticks to the edge of the channel. Be careful when attempting this as you won't have much sealing material before leaving a small gap at the end to allow air to escape from the ice slide. Although I solved the problem and it works great now, I would prefer GE parts suppliers to make a part identical in thickness to the original. Maybe they figured it would deform less over time and require fewer repairs. Although I have 2 GE Profile fridges, they only needed a new door panel after 15 years so I don't understand why they did it.
