Genuine GE Spare Part - Problem Solved

Our 10 year old GE Side by Side Fridge Freezer started dripping very little water and dripped down the freezer door from the lower center front panel around the water and ice dispensers around down . I thought it was condensation, which it basically was, but the source of the condensation is this damper. Over time, the rubber damper hardens and allows some warm room air to flow up and between the damper and the freezer compartment, allowing condensation to form and drain away. Keep in mind that

Easy do-it-yourself ice maker door damper replacement

The replacement item is definitely an improvement over the original damper/seal. I have a TFX25 built circa 2000 and the original flapper/seal was very flimsy and lost shape over time. The replacement gasket is much thicker and I doubt it will warp. The only issue I had installing the replacement was that the top hinge had a little more play than the original and it would get stuck and not close when the magnet was released. I fixed this by using a plastic tie made from earbud cord or similar…

Fixed minor mod issue

So I noticed a lot of frost in my GE fridge side by side on the freezer side - right next to the ice chute. Googled the issue and found that it was most likely a bug with that part. While it was still closing, the rubber seal had deteriorated somewhat and was no longer sealing, allowing warm air to rise up through the shaft. Very easy to replace the part, it took about 5 minutes. However, as others here have noted, the top of the seal catches on the plastic frame and doesn't close completely…

Thicker than the original valve and caused a sticking problem.

New valve design, black rubber part, now thicker than the original. I didn't notice at first. I've installed a new one a couple of times and had to check the solenoid and spring because it was stuck/open intermittently. It turned out to be stuck in the very pointed tip of the black rubber flap seal where the round ice chute exits the freezer door. I compared it to the old flap and found that the new one is thicker. I solved this by using scissors and cutting about a millimeter or two straight…

To make this new design work on an older design with a smaller valve

You CAN do this for an old ice dispenser door. A few steps need to be taken. Cut the rubber door around the perimeter to fit the smaller old door, about 1/8 inch. Remove the new rubber door from the new white plastic door frame. Cut a deeper notch in just one of the slots so the lever on the old white door frame can slide smoothly and evenly into the rubber. Door. About 1/16 inch lower. Remove the old rubber door from the old white door frame. Use double-sided tape. After drying, this white…
