Review on ๐ŸŽฎ Enhanced 8Bitdo SN30 Pro+ Wireless Bluetooth Game Controller: Windows, macOS, Android, Steam, Nintendo Switch, Raspberry Pi (Black Edition) by Rachel Smith

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good hardware but poor software support

Pleasant feeling of build quality, not at all like a third-party controller. The USB-C charging port and a rechargeable battery that can be removed and temporarily replaced with AA hasn't drained the battery yet, so I need it, but it's a good option. I'm not a fan of the old Nintendo style, especially with the off-center and closely spaced launch/select buttons, but I can't fault them for the conscious design choices I was aware of when I bought it, it's a solid controller by any measure . The problem is the pairing/software. Switching between devices is an issue that often involves repeatedly removing the battery to reset the controller (where it's good to have a removable battery) and removing and re-adding them from the device's Bluetooth connections. The controller has different power-up modes, which in theory make it easier to connect to different devices, but just don't work in practice. I use my controller between a PC, some Android devices and sometimes a Chromebook, and I usually just plug it into the PC to avoid the hassle of fixing it. The controller buttons are programmable, but this can only be done through the Windows program, which is very boxy with poor localization. There is also an Android app but it doesn't support button programming which seems to only exist to test if the controller's buttons work, other than not testing all the buttons. Hope future updates can clean up the software, the pairing problem is annoying but a bit common with Bluetooth devices. I just hoped the few modes suggested here would make it easier.
