The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - 20 Years of Farberware Percolators Experience

This is my third Farberware pan in 20 years. Not a bad record for what I use every day. In comparison, my mother still uses grandma's crockery from the 70s. Both coffee makers make a fantastic cup of coffee, which is why I always swap out my utensils for different ones. Here is the low level. Pros: The best cup of coffee you can make at home. I've had other types and brands of coffee makers/percolators and just have nothing to compare them to. Whether you're using cheap or expensive coffee, the percolator will force water through that grind and the result is liquid gold. Bad: You have to turn off the machine right after the leak. For two reasons: First, because it makes very hot coffee right from the start, the coffee simply cakes in the pot and leaves a bitter residue. Just pah. Second, the heating element overheats and ends up frying the spot where the fork connects to the pancoils (not sure if that's the right term). I snot on coffee, so I want mine fresh every time, but I've been known to frantically cook a full pot and microwave leftovers without sacrificing flavor or texture. Ugly: It's not cheap. You're lucky if you last six years. But if you think about it, it's about $10.50 a year for something I use every day. um, yes No big deal - so I just bought another one. One of mine lasted eight years and could have lasted longer, but my mother-in-law left it on for a few hours while she was home and the spot where the coil and plug met melted. Lesson learned. Get a protection plan for a few dollars (the price of a Starbucks drink) for peace of mind. Helpful Tips from Grandma: If you don't want crumbs floating in your coffee: Wet the basket first before adding crumbs. If you do not want coffee oils to stick to the jug/basket: Wipe regularly with a damp paper towel after each use. I highly recommend this brand of percolators. Coffee is good to the last drop. Pun.
