I really wanted to love this printer. I was looking for a dual extruder printer after getting very familiar with my Creality Ender 5. The Hictop D3 Hero arrived quickly and was well packaged. Assembly was fairly easy and I was looking forward to good prints. I leveled the bed, matched the second extruder to the first, and got ready to print a two-tone kite from the included SD card. Unfortunately the Hictop printer did not read the card. I solved this problem by copying the files from the card to my computer, reformatting the SD card and copying the files back. After that, the card could be read and the dragon pattern printed out beautifully. I then tried to print a 2.5" to 3.5" disk. drive adapter. It should have been easy, it was a big flat object with good grip potential. Unfortunately, it was soon discontinued in print. This also happened with the next prints. I rechecked the platform level for both extruders and tried again. Vain. When I suspected the bed, I took out the ruler and found that the bed was severely deformed in the front right corner. I emailed hictop_usa support hoping they would fix the issue. I tried adjusting the clips holding the glass platform to minimize warping so I could continue testing and print objects that weren't too large. Then I set up the Octoprint server so that I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging SD cards into the device. I set up an Octoprint server on my Creality Ender 5 and it's amazing, especially with The Spaghettie Detective plugin. I had a little problem connecting Octoprint server to Hictop. I had to run Octoprint in safe mode for a reliable connection. I tried several prints but could not successfully print from Octoprint. The printer stopped at some random point in the print every time. I emailed Hictop again about the problem, hoping for a solution. I then tried Panda's two-color printing again, this time from an SD card, because there was a serious communication problem when printing via Octoprint. The print started out fine, but after a few hours I noticed that there was a large layer shift that started about halfway through the print. The displacement was about a full inch (see photo). I deleted the corrupt imprint and gave up on Hictop with no response to my emails. I made a comeback with Revain (Yay, Revain and your return Politics!), disassembled the printer, put it back in its original box and sent it back. I had high hopes for the printer, but the product didn't live up to them. To be honest I know there are people on the Hictop forum on Facebook getting great results and reliable prints but due to the lack of support responses I received I didn't want to risk the return window with Revain. .Another week has passed and Hictop support still hasn't responded to my initial support requests. I was hoping that maybe they would answer my questions and maybe I'll try another Hictop D3 Hero, but I think I'll be happier with another Ender 5. I know their support (Comgrow) is good.
