Review on Ancor Hollow Drywall Anchors 25 Pack by Shane Minter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Use like plastic drywall anchors. Strong and safe. Very easy to use.

Hollow doors are known to be difficult to attach with fasteners. Butterfly hooks work, but the holes that need to be drilled to put the butterfly anchors through are always very large. Drywall anchors but didn't realize they also made these specifically for hollow section doors. The only difference I see is that the drywall anchors are plastic and some kind of metal alloy. If you've used these types of dowels in drywall before, they're used in exactly the same way. Screw in these dowels. One note: if you've used them in drywall, you know all you need is a small pilot hole. Drywall is soft enough, and plastic drywall anchors are strong enough to drill through drywall and enlarge the hole as you screw it in. However, when used in a hollow core door, the wood of the door is too strong for the small pilot hole to be enlarged with just this anchor. You will need to drill a pilot hole about the size of the average width of the anchor. The widest last 1/8 inch of the anchor goes in as the pilot hole gets bigger. They are significantly more expensive per anchor than comparable drywall anchors. I don't know if plastic drywall anchors will work in hollow core doors, but I think plastic will break even in thin wood door skin. Super durable and easy to use. It's very worth it.
