I have a carpel tunnel so crocheting can really hurt my hands and arms to the point where I can't crochet for days (which I hate). The longer handle allowed me to loosen my grip and easily switch between knife and pen grips, allowing me to knit longer, which was my desire. a hook is still more painful than a hook with a thicker handle. Also, after using Boye and such, it took me a minute to get used to the difference in the throat of the hook and how to change the grip of the yarn a bit. Because the head was in line with the hook and not slightly raised, I had to keep "reaching" to grab the yarn. Not a big problem, just something to watch out for if you're used to a different style.
