Works with older OEM motherboards after removing the back X1 connector. There is a jumper on this to make it X1 instead of X4. This makes the speed significantly slower, but I was left with no other choice (thanks to Lenovo for letting the X16 port only work for graphics). The only downside is that the download time is increased by about 45 seconds or more. I'm running the OS from an SSD so it usually takes me about 15 seconds to boot up, but now it's over a minute. In general I am satisfied. I don't use RAID as I think it's more trouble than it's worth in most non-professional applications. Of course, if you have 5 or more clients adding or changing data on the server, RAID redundancy makes sense. In most cases the home server will have one or two clients adding data, in which case you can just manually copy/paste to a backup drive or just set up a program like Macrium Reflect to create a nightly or weekly backup image .
