I've used a fine diamond stone in the past to give my knives a respectable edge. This is followed by finishing Arkansas Stones in medium to hard hardness depending on how much work needs to be done to get a good edge. This stone takes a lot of time and effort in my traditional process of getting the blades of my knives either at or very close to final stage. For the knives in my kitchen, this is all I need. With my set of 12 high carbon mundial knives, I can achieve a very useful edge by spending about a minute on each blade without the need for any additional steps. As far as my EDC collection, hunting and tactics, this stone can sharpen these knives dangerously. It even cuts sharp edges on high-tech steels like SV-30, ATS-34 and Sandvik 1326 with ease in a minute or two each. To get the last edge (or at least very close) I use this stone today. . I usually use it wet to sharpen my knives. For very dull edges I will sometimes start with a coarse diamond stone, then move on to a fine diamond stone as needed and finish with that stone. I use it dry a lot, mainly to get a finished edge or touch up an edge. In my opinion, using traditional methods still produces the best possible edge, but for most of us, this sharpener is a small investment in results and time savings. If this stone doesn't lead you to what you think is the finished edge, it will bring you closer to it and save you a lot of time. Overall, this sharpener does a great job with everything I've attempted to sharpen with it. Up until recently the only way I've found to get a blade edge to my satisfaction was by using a few Arkansas stones, which can give you a scalpel-like edge to your blade, but it takes time, a big eye and patience. This stone will not give you the same results, but will bring you closer. These days I just don't have time to cut my knives with traditional stone, and diamond stones get me that edge in minutes, not hours. I would recommend this sharpener to anyone looking to save time. and still achieve excellent results with your knives. It is the ideal stone to clean the blade of a semi-sharp knife or to give a new sharp knife a good edge in minutes. Great product and highly recommended.
