Review on πŸ”§ OTC 4513 Heavy-Duty 2-Piece Snap-Ring Pliers Set for Internal and External Use by Chris Castro

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked with a very stiff 2 1/4 " ring on a Case 580C backhoe

I had an old snap ring plier that looked like the $15 O'Reily pliers. She was no better than I already had . The ones where I had the tips bent without removing the very stiff 2 1/4" ring from the dredge. I ordered this OTC kit. This OTC kit worked fine - I took the rings off with no problem. Folks here and the product description mention that this set is for large rings (3 1/2" - 6 1/8" outer rings). But the rings I used it on were 2 - 2 1/4" outer rings and they worked fine. I think the missing spec that might come in handy here for how far apart the spikes are if they're as close as possible. There are several peaks, so it might be a bit different. But it's minimal with the straight I used. The center-to-center spacing is about 5/16" - slightly less. This was for an external set. And I measured the same for the internal set (which I haven't used yet) They also meet the minimum lug center spacing of 5/16". The only problem I found was that when changing tips, the screws holding the tips in place tended to cross-thread. Be careful and don't try too hard when driving tipped screws in. If you start them right, they thread in easily. The tips, by the way, are .12" in diameter and are very strong. They didn't bend at all, and it took quite a bit of strength, mine Squeezing rings - I felt that effort even with the huge lever handles on this set.
