The old left and right side lifters were bad so I used a piece of wood to hold the hood open. It fits perfectly on my 2005 Acura MDX hood. You only need a flathead screwdriver to loosen the clamp on either side of the jack (you don't need to loosen the nut on the hood to remove/replace the jack) and insert the crate jack bracket (I also used a screwdriver). to loosen the clamp for insertion). When I replaced the driver's side, I was able to remove the piece of wood. Then I replaced the right side in the same way as the left. It took about 5 minutes each side, very easy.
