Review on Ableconn M2MN 151M NGFF M Key Riser by Gregory Rasmussen

Works as intended on USB port cards

First of all, this adapter does what it's supposed to. It routes the signal from the source slot to the slot on the riser without sacrificing performance. However, this is not a perfect product. This adapter is advertised on the package to prevent the m2 slot from being damaged by repeated plugging. Unless you're reviewing or testing products, I think this use case is questionable. to the point that this product even exists it is amazing. I can't imagine how anyone could justify production based on this feature. In fact, the product photo on the box is even more specific; It is intended for use in a 22110 m2 slot only. Fortunately, the product inside is a bit more flexible. However, this product can be used in 2280 or 22110 slot lengths. This corresponds to the intended use case. However, this is not a completely redesigned design as it will not fit the 2280 slot. This means that devices that accept an 80mm card may not have the space required for a 110mm card; and the riser is not perforated, so its size cannot be reduced. You need to cut it with a saw (hacksaw/bandsaw/hacksaw) according to your needs. Luckily there are no markings on the top so precision cutting is not required. The stand is also positioned to accommodate different sizes of NVME SSDs. This is the more likely use case for this riser. Your motherboard may not have the necessary clearances for different sizes of SSDs. This riser adds these rack positions. However, it is strange that they have not focused on this aspect as the main use case. The riser must accommodate nxn mounting points for both the SSDs and the motherboard mounting points; This means that there must be holes for connectors 2242 to 2280 for both the motherboard and the SSD. There is room on the stand for the full set of mounting points as the stand offsets the SSD. This should indeed be added in a future release. I'm only giving this product 5 stars because it's the only game in town that randomly resizes any size motherboard slot to fit (almost) any size SSD; It does not accept 110mm SSDs. There are a few Chinese products that are better designed - multiple perforations for resizing and multiple attachment positions - but I didn't want to wait too long for delivery.

Pros
  • Computer components
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than others
