Review on Klenk Select-A-Bit Ratcheting SPEED Driver with 16 Bits - DA86450 by David Ruwala

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not just the best screwdriver I've ever had but possibly the best tool

I really can't say enough good things about this tool. I used to have a SmartPro Tools SPT 3000-B 13 speed speed driver set. Last week I dropped it 2 feet on the sidewalk and it broke. I was very disappointed as I like the low torque gear design (saves a bit of time on long mounting bolts). I decided to replace it but luckily before I clicked order I saw a review of this competitive Klenk product. I particularly took note of an article in Popular Mechanics that mentioned the Klenk survived a 6 foot drop onto concrete and thought it might be worth a try. It arrived a few days ago and now my only question is how much will I order. I have ordered one so far but expect to buy 5 more in a couple of weeks. It has the same benefits as a ratchet and 4-to-1 low-torque gear system. But while the SmartPro takes two hands to change direction and slide the lockout to change gear ratios, the Klenk has a forward/fixed/reverse shifter just under my thumb. And to switch to 4:1 mode, all you have to do is grab the collar with your other hand, without a latch, like the SmartPro. I also LOVE the long bits that are available in the handle without unscrewing the end. Very handy and especially for Philips, this means that if you choose a Philips nozzle that is too small or too large, you have a 50/50 chance that the correct nozzle is at the other end of the nozzle you are using. (These are two-sided hex bits). With all due respect to SmartPro, I've spent many wonderful years with it and without them I wouldn't have known such a tool existed. But Klenk is so superior in design and use that I will buy it for every tool kit/bag/car. If only they sold them in packs of 10 ;-)

Pros
  • handy item
Cons
  • so far so good
