I'm in Houston. If you're not familiar with DampRid, it's something of a poor man's dehumidifier. In the past we always answered questions about mold in dormitories with "Let's put DampRid in there". :1) This is more of a resupply system, not a separate one. I would take a smaller Damp Rid, use it, save the reservoir, then refill it with this pitcher. This is a jug, it's huge and magical. You will not use the pitcher to collect moisture. 2) This is much better than the old system where the filler came in a plastic bag. I've always ripped off the top the wrong way round and couldn't reseal it. It has a simple screw cap. 3) It looks like it has more than that old refill pouch you might get. However, I filled 5 cups the other day and have plenty left. To be honest, I can pour out my Damp Rid buckets every day, but I don't and they stay soaked (again, in a high humidity area) for about a week. That's good, but it's actually bigger than the old DampRid disposable containers. So when pouring the product, remember that you don't want to spill the dry particles anywhere. Things I use DampRid for: During the summer in my class I put it in a closet where I have some books and papers. Every year it keeps the closet/pantry clean and dry. However, I'm cautious and know that when it does topple over, the water isn't actually water, but rather a thick, gel-like substance that can ruin anything it touches. I always put the container in the fridge when the time comes. to thaw it. Think of it like putting a piece of old newspaper in the fridge to dry out the moisture trick. Except this time I didn't get the ink all over the place and it lasts all summer so there's no smell in the fridge when I turn it back on. An occasional use is that I use DampRid to quickly dry the emulsion off the screens. You may have no idea what I'm talking about, which is cool, but if you're into screen printing, a closet full of DampRid can serve you just as well as a dehumidifier. Acknowledge that this isn't a way to kill mold but can be somewhat preventive to quell new mold growth in damp areas. It was also a joke between us because our support team never fixed anything, so we had to non-stop handing out DampRid tubs to at least slow mold growth in the student rooms.
