Review on Powerful and Efficient: πŸ’¨ SU-2020 Ultrasonic Humidifier with 2-Gallon Capacity by Farhad Cantu

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's not perfect but for fifty bucks

[Update - 10/25/2018] We have 4 of these now and they still work with the originals I bought. White dust is a problem if you live in a hard water area. To solve this problem, we installed a reverse osmosis system - the APEC 90 RO system - and only use filtered water for humidifiers. Since we switched to RO Water, the fans are no longer contaminated with mineral deposits from white dust. Aside from blowing out the vents and fans, descaling the water chambers, and keeping them dry and clean during storage, I didn't have to do any additional maintenance on the humidifiers. I bought replacement fans but I haven't had to replace them once in all that time. I'm increasing my rating to 5/5. We have this in our 15x20 bedroom with 10 foot ceilings so it's a bit of space. We originally had a Honeywell evaporative humidifier, but it was constantly struggling with noise and vibration, so we decided to try ultrasonics again. The first sonic we bought was an air o swiss venta sonic which ended up being expensive junk backed by a non-existent warranty. I mention all of this because the above two purchasing decisions forced us to find a lower price point. - A no-frills humidifier with a large tank and this one is perfect for all needs. It's not perfect, but for fifty bucks I'm not looking for perfection, I'm just looking for value for money and it delivers. A few things you need to know right away: Good for 24 hours of full fog, but the converter runs so high that water splashes into the chamber. If you've ever seen one of these zen waterfalls, the sound of water dripping and splashing is about as loud. Luckily the spatter stops at 50% and in fact the only noise you hear is the brushless fan motor. 2) The fan motor failed within 24 hours but thanks to Amazon's excellent returns policy we had a working unit on our doorstep for 2 days. after. I've since found a brushless fan on ebay and bought a couple extra to insure in case the next fan fails. It's a fairly easy replacement if you're experienced (screw in 7 screws, loosen the old ones, plug in the new ones - done) 3) A major problem I've found with humidifiers is that they have their electronic Do not cover circuit boards with protective varnish. Humidity and electronics don't mix well, so it seems like a simple matter. This caused our Air o $wiss to short out so I think it could happen again but I'll take the electronics board out and coat it myself for extra insurance. After spending $400 on other expensive humidifiers I've now spent half as much to get 4 times as many humidifiers and I'm happy with what I have and the best part is if it ever breaks goes, I can just buy more without thinking much about pain.
