Unfortunately, last week, due to a catastrophic motherboard failure, he decided to take a dive. Considering she was 10 years old, I decided to replace the "brain" with something more modern, but not overdo it. Having recently spent a lot of money on a computer, I tried to get close to $400 and here is what I did. BRAINS.Intel i3-10100 Processor ($100): www.amazon.com/gp/product /B086MMRW87MSI Mag B460 Motherboard ($110): www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08GXVP1DMTeamGroup 16GB DDR4 ($60 US) : www.amazon .com/gp/product/B07WNQVBZ6*** These are the main components that MUST be compatible. and they *** I was worried about my hard drive so I went ahead and bought a 1TB TeamGroup SSD ($75 - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PX2KKHM) bringing my grand total to just under 400 brought dollars. I could have kept my old 500GB 5400rpm Seagate hard drive, but I had to spend a bit more which made loading and latency much faster. a year ago my case and my very old graphics card (r9 380 - 4gb). I already had a good monitor, mouse and keyboard, so those were carried over as well. So how did it all come together? Pretty smooth, just 2 small hiccups. Hiccup #1. RAM: I didn't realize the motherboard I bought had a standard RAM speed of 2666 dollars or so. But I didn't. and this is my first build with TeamGroup RAM and I'm happy with it. Hiccup #2 LAN/AUDIO: After setting everything up, LAN wouldn't connect to my network (wired, ethernet connection). A small bug fix revealed that YOU MUST UPDATE THE LAN DRIVER for it to work. This means the presence of another computer with the Internet and a flash drive. Also, I updated the audio driver and the sound is much clearer. So. Take a moment and pre-download all drivers from MSI website. FIRST START-UP: The computer started up and then immediately shut down. It then rebooted by itself and said the motherboard detected a change so I need to tweak the BIOS. Going into the BIOS found that everything is recognized. So I replaced the first boot device with a USB stick, plugged in my Windows 10 installation stick and rebooted. Conclusion: The Intel i3-10100 is a great little chip (not overclockable). The MSI 460 Torpedo is a decent motherboard (just update your LAN and audio drivers) that boots fast. In fact, it loads so fast that I don't even see the POST screen. Cold on Windows in less than 30 seconds. The RAM is stable at 2666 and fast enough that I probably won't even get to the 2933 setting. Dollar). Even with an outdated R9 graphics card, I can easily get 60 fps in modern games at 1080 resolution on medium to high settings. Sometime next year, when graphics card prices drop to reasonable levels, I will update them and prepare a second gaming rig. Overall I'm very happy with this setup.
