Pros:* Amazing lens quality, especially for the price. Very sharp and razor sharp with no creases, vignetting or other types of "lens character".* Versatile. Although this lens is designed for macro photography, it can also be used for portraits and as a general purpose lens. If you're using it as an all-purpose lens, it's important to take the time to get to know it, as it does have some limitations. I leave this lens on my camera most of the time unless I need a telephoto lens. In good light, I don't need a ring flash or a tripod, but both are important tools for getting the most out of a lens. For flash, I recommend the Bower SFD14C Canon E-TTL I/II ring flash for close-ups, for tripod I choose Manfrotto, but there are many options.* Lightweight and easy to use. Some other macro lenses are very long and heavy. These lenses require a good tripod and flash, making them difficult to use outdoors. It should be noted that not everyone will be able to hold a macro lens in their hands - this requires a very steady hand.* Can be used in full manual or automatic mode. I do most of my recordings in AV mode or full manual mode depending on what I want to get out of the recording. Cons: * Can be a bit tricky to focus, but chances are you'll need to focus manually to get the best results. * EF - C only. If you use a crop body, everything is fine. If you're using full frame, check out the Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5X Macro Lens for Canon DSLRs. It's expensive but worth it. Who it is for: * Anyone looking to get into macro or portrait photography. * Anyone who wants something inexpensive. * Anyone who needs a macro/portrait lens that can go around and shoot without a tripod.
