Review on Ade Advanced Optics RHB 10ATC 1 REFRACTOMETER by Wayne Moody

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect item for maple sap/syrup growers

Although I only have a few trees in my garden (10 branches), I really wanted to know if my sap/syrup ratio was "in the normal range". This refractometer is very easy to use and extremely accurate. (I calibrated it with 0% distilled water and tested it with 5% lab sucrose. It has worked flawlessly in several different temperature tests!) The device is also extremely robust and seems well constructed for field use. The kit also included a soft zippered pouch, two droppers, and a calibration screwdriver. Although this is a precision tool, I think it will easily withstand prolonged use in the woods. You can also work with gloves on - a bonus on those really cold days. I can only speak to the device we received from the vendor I chose (magnum_media). The seller also had fantastic customer service and was quick to respond to my questions. Whether you're a "real" maple syrup maker or just a data-loving hobbyist, this tool is for you. It's also great for your friends and neighbors to drop by and want a "tour". I have them check it out and see how sugar concentration can vary between trees - and even between taps on the same tree (I have huge 100 year old trees). Unfortunately, the only thing this tool can't do is make my juice "sweeter". ." I found that my total sugar concentration is 2%, which is quite normal. Well, I guess I can plant a few more trees and wait 100 years to see if they get any sweeter.
