I used these timers to turn on the lights when we were out of town - a common feature for them. I think. They work great. Although they are not easy to install. First, there are no instructions on the box, but the design is quite intuitive. Dark side for night, light side for day, etc. The switch on the side is not easy to toggle from "off" to "on" and vice versa. It also seems to want to stop before it's fully booted, which is why the first test failed because the switch wasn't pushed 'open' far enough, even though it seemed to. I'm glad I checked them out before we left! The tabs for setting the timer on time have to be pulled up to activate the timer, which seems counterintuitive. This also means that it's very easy to accidentally turn off the timer. My other timers of this type have tabs that you have to press when you turn them on - generally simpler and better. These timers only work with ungrounded (2-pin) plugs. They're cheap and work as they should, but there are some things that are far from ideal when it comes to setting up. That's why I rated them 3/5. There are better designs, but they work.
