The stand is well designed and built. Good quality metal. After the first few minutes of adjusting the various angles of the platform and extension sections, it's fairly stable. The extension section may seem difficult to raise/lower, but it's not difficult at all. In my opinion, the extension was designed in such a way that it doesn't crash unexpectedly along with your laptop/iPad on the platform. The technique is to press the release button on the top rear of the extender to release the handle and then easily move the extender up or down. Be sure to press the button all the way down until you hear (or feel) a click; only a light press on the button does nothing, in my opinion a good security feature.
