I have very curious parrots who love to explore. I find that this crate is not secure: 1) The metal hooks that hang the crate from the cage: A) The hooks that come with the crate are too big and cause the crate to sit far enough away from the cage, so that a curious bird can sit on it and get stuck between the cage and the crate. B) In addition, the ends of the hooks are sharp and may cause injury. The sharp edges are close enough that a bird holding onto the edge of the cage could injure itself. 2) Metal loops with sharp edges in the nesting area. The hinge screw heads are not ground and are very sharp. They could easily be placed outside the cage. If loops are needed inside the cage, there are very strong plastic loops on the market that are safer, cheaper, and very reliable. I just don't feel that the safety of our animals was considered. However, this cage can be made safe. You can attach the hinges to the outside or do what I did and use the hinges with plastic pins. (used for ailerons on my RC planes). There are safer ways to attach the box to the cage. I used plastic wire guides attached to the box and cage. This also brings the box closer to the cage. You can also pad the box so that there is no gap. The wood used for the box is cheap. My box didn't have the wooden dowel (perch) shown in the picture, I had to use a plastic toy that went well with the hole they made in the box. TL; DR: This box is not as secure as it should be. must have been cheaply made and mine was missing the necessary parts.
