Unclear instructions, but it does work.

The kit came complete, however the instructions are terrible. I had the hardest time figuring out what to do. I ended up punching out the slug in the Pella patio door and just using the lock from the kit. Apparently what you need to do is after disassembling the door handle mechanism on the patio door is to insert the lock mechanism thru the mortice, then add the inside handle and you then cut the length of the stem on the lock. It comes with a long stem, but the instructions don't tell you what to do. Only YOUTUBE has the answers from other door companies. If you take out the original mortice from the door to use the one that comes with the kit, warning: stick a pencil or something in the bottom hole of the door frame otherwise the mortice falls to the bottom of the inside of the door, that's what happened to me. I used the original mortice and the original outside and inside handle and latch, I only used the lock. It would be wise to file the teeth down a little so that the key inserts into the lock smoothly. Over all, the lock works. in addition instead of buying the whole handle assembly, just pick up a lock, that's what I should have done, but who knew. the kit DOES work but due your due diligence in the assembly,, others wise you'll be pulling your hair out. but I'm sure if you're a locksmith you could have done it under 30 minutes. It took me on and off about 4 hours trying to figure it out. But it does indeed work. Just remember when adding the inside handle with the latch to the door frame and adding the handle with the lock on the outside, cut the stem on the lock a little at a time. There are marks where to cut. I used a dremel a little at a time, tested the fit, cut a little more, etc until it finally fit. It does work.

Pros
  • GOOD
Cons
  • Can only fit specific door measurements, limiting its versatility
