These whistles are made of thin metal and imitate a heavy iron whistle. In my honest opinion, this is NOT a heavy iron pipe. Can flanges be cast? My flanges were very rough. Powder coating well done. It's either the wrong method for tapping pipe or flanges, or both. I ordered a set of three mounts. A set of brackets I put together was fine. Two other couples left me with shelves that weren't level. You can adjust the level from left to right by adjusting the length of the short vertical tubes. The problem is how the flange meets the bottom of the shelf. You can rotate or synchronize the round flanges to try and find the best position so that the flange touches most of the bottom of the shelf you will be bolting to. But don't be surprised if you have a gap between part of the flange and the bottom of the shelf. If the flanges are inclined to the wall, your shelf will meet the wall at a 'closed' 90 degree angle. If the flanges are angled towards the front of the shelf, you will have an "open 90 degree angle" where the marble will roll off the front of the shelf. I used longer screws to attach the flanges to wood with a nickel gap. Save and use these brackets because I had no choice at the time. I won't put heavy objects on the shelves, so that's enough. When you need real heavy duty iron pipe shelf brackets. Use real iron pipe, which you can find at Lowe's. I hope my description helps you in your decision.
