I bought this in 2016 as a Christmas present for my boyfriend because we have a 1990s BMW with a tape recorder and CD player in the trunk but no way to connect our phones or listen via bluetooth, to listen to Pandora or audiobooks. and that was quite annoying, especially on long car rides. I'm a big believer in Revain reviews and my family even jokes that I can't buy anything without reading reviews for two hours. As you might expect, I did A LOT of research before purchasing this transmitter. Of the many I looked at, this one had the best reviews and was actually very cheap. I bought it for about the same price at a gas station on a trip a few years ago. This one turned out to be pretty cheap and crappy and didn't work very well so I was very hesitant to get another one but I'm so glad I went with this one! Firstly, it's very convenient in that it doesn't sit directly on the cigarette lighter, it actually has a flexible neck so it can be easily rotated in a specific direction toward the face. The neck isn't as pliable as I expected so it only holds really well in 2-3 positions. It doesn't affect my usage in any way, but I thought I'd mention it in case someone tries to use it in a specific area. It's fairly durable, however, and we've had no issues with it detaching from the cigarette lighter port or sagging. I also really like that it has a USB port on the base so I can plug in my phone to charge while using the transmitter. It wasn't what I was looking for but now I see how inconvenient it would be if it wasn't there because we only have one cigarette lighter socket in our car. Apparently it also works if you plug in a music stick and it plays them, but I have yet to try this feature. The screen is definitely bright enough to see well, but not so bright that driving is uncomfortable. car at night. I had a car charger with a very bright blue LED and had to wrap tape around the bulb so it wouldn't distract me when driving at night, so it was a real relief that this one didn't have one. It's pretty cool that it actually shows your car's battery level right on the screen! I didn't understand why it had a battery logo since it doesn't run on batteries, but after reading the manual I was really impressed with this feature. Buying a battery gauge from Revain doesn't come cheap, so having one built in is pretty cool. In terms of actual usage, I was almost shocked at how easy it was to pair with both my Samsung Galaxy S6 and my friend's iPhone. . We didn't even have to open a small manual. After I plugged it into the cigarette lighter port it lit up immediately and without pressing any buttons on the transmitter I was able to scan it on my phone and it immediately showed up as an available device and paired with no issues. And every time we get in the car and the transmitter is turned on, it automatically connects to anyone who has Bluetooth, so quick and easy! After pairing, I turned on Pandora on my phone to see if it worked or not, then started changing the broadcast channel to find one that wasn't already a radio station. At first I was very upset and thought it wouldn't work because my car radio wouldn't stop on any of the channels I selected on the station, but then I realized I had to switch it from auto tuning to manual. Tuning mode so I could increase the volume on my car radio one decimal place at a time and that completely solved the problem. I was able to easily select a station on both my stereo and station, and the Pandora I had on my phone played perfectly clear. I've found that it's definitely sharper on some stations than others, so play around with it a bit if you notice noise. Luckily, even if we did notice a bit of hissing when no music was playing, we really couldn't hear it in songs or audiobooks. Sounds minimal, but I was so excited when the directional buttons on the transmitter could jump to the next song on Pandora! It says they're mostly used when you plug in a flash drive, but they work for a few applications, and luckily Pandora is one of them! I actually only used the speakerphone a couple of times, but I found I had to speak a little louder than usual to reach the microphone. This may be partly due to the location of the cigarette lighter socket in my car. However, I had no trouble understanding the person on the phone and there was no interference, they just said my voice was a bit quiet. So still usable. Eventually I have yet to use it because Bluetooth works so well, but surprisingly it comes with an AUX cable too. So if you have an MP3 player or something else that doesn't have Bluetooth capabilities, you can also use AUX cable to connect and play that music on your car speakers via FM. The manual also says that if you have an AUX jack on your car stereo you can also go the other way and connect your phone to the transmitter via Bluetooth and then actually plug the AUX cable into the port instead of the FM to use the send function. If I had an AUX connection for the cable I'd find that surprisingly handy and you'll certainly get some really good clear sound using this method. To sum it up, I'm pretty blown away by all the features it has and how well it works. . I'm so glad I ended up buying this and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone.
