I bought one of these sharpeners and it fell apart after 20+ years of frequent use. So I bought this latest model and it hasn't changed at all from my previous one. This sharpener keeps knives that need "tuning" sharp. If the knife has really been neglected and is as sharp as mashed potatoes then I would recommend using a traditional sharpening stone first and then using the Edge Maker to keep the knife blade sharp. And yes, this Edge Maker makes my 10" Serrated Victorinox Bread Knife super sharp. It also makes a wonderful gift.
