Review on High-Performance Thermadyne TurboTorch X-3B Air Acetylene Torch Outfit: Ultimate Precision and Efficiency! by Eric Rios

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Seriously the best home split rig

I've used these on several residential split system installations and they work great. I ordered an MC tank adapter (just be sure to check for leaks with soap) and off we went. A11 is all I use for general setup, the smaller tip (A5 I think) is good for 3/8" tubing but I only use it for soldering work. Personally, I'm not a fan of acetylene-oxygen as I almost always run out of oxygen in the middle of work and still switch to a turbo torch and do small jobs around the home. 1 inch diameter or less and this thing gets pretty hot for proper 15% AG soldering. Be sure to purge with psi nitrogen vapor otherwise. I'm also teaching a guy how to install it these days, and it's a lot better than oxyfuel for a beginner as it's a lot harder for you to accidentally cut a service connector or set of lines, which is pretty common for oxyfuel newbies occurs.

Pros
  • Includes AR-B regulator, G-4 handle, AH-12 hose, A-3 tip, A-11 tip.
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
