Review on KYB SM5806 Strut Mount by Joseph Mathis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I was glad I got these things as soon as I saw their condition.

I bought these as part of a strut replacement on a 2007 Subaru Outback. While at first I wondered if the money would be well spent, I was glad I got these things when I saw the condition of the originals, which have lasted over 240,000 miles. The Revain price was the best I found and they were delivered quickly. and undamaged. They come with a set of nuts to match the studs that attach the brackets to the body. During installation I noticed that they differ from the OEM brackets. The most noticeable difference is in their height. While on the originals the rim protrudes over the flange over the hole in the body, here the rim is flush with the body. Since I carefully checked and verified the installation before and after purchase, I believe it is a design change. Another thing I found, and I don't know if it's a strut or bracket difference, is that I couldn't tighten the strut shaft just enough to keep it from rattling in the bracket and solved the problem. The problem is installing the washing machine there. I suspect these brackets are a little thinner than the original brackets used by Subaru. Overall I'm happy with them because together with the struts they improved my car's handling and got rid of some annoying noises. The shim solved the fit issue, but if I had to do the job all over again I would most likely end up with brackets that are more like the OEM style.
