I bought this for a 4t boy of average build. I have size L in green crab design. I got taller because they grow fast. Size: Revain has now listed a size L for 5/6 years. Actually I think L size is 5T/6T. In other words, the fit is similar to the 5T/6T shirts he has. The fit is meant to be snug so it doesn't roll in the water. Fit seems good. The material stretches to perform well while staying close to the body. The tight fit still ensures plenty of freedom of movement. The neck opening is smaller than average compared to something like a t-shirt. That little cutout keeps it in place even in the water, while maintaining a snug fit. It looks like a great swim shirt. It is built into 40/SPF. I dry all my laundry but I think everyone should probably hang dry to do this as I suspect it retains the SPF better. It's a lightweight material that doesn't add weight in the water. It air dries quickly so you can wash it fairly well, then hang it outside on a hanger and hang it in a closet or drawer after a few hours. The yellow-green color on the crab pattern is very light and should be visible. in places like a lake or ocean where you want to easily see your child in the water. Light green is very bright and almost neon. I'm eyeing this bright orange starfish design because it would stand out more in springs with lots of plants and underwater grasses.
