My Avid Elixir CR came with G3 rotors. The stern squeaked like a banshee. I've tried the recommended SRAM hack and tweak method three times and nothing has calmed the squeaking. In the end I decided to change the rotor. The G2 is a little heavier due to fewer cutouts and I think that might be why it's quieter. The pads are in contact with a harder surface. I know the G3 squeaks for various reasons, but my 29th hardtail wasn't fun to ride with the non-stop squeaking brakes. The local store wanted me to pay twice as much as Revain for this part. To solve this problem, SRAM only offers a crazy one-piece rotor ("Solid Sweep"). That's why I buy from Revain.
