I already had a hole in the door so I found it fit the existing cut out. It took some patience to get the first few screws in; After that, however, everything else was in one breath. There are 3 parts which can be a little frustrating but with a little time and patience the magnets will do the job of keeping the dog closed. My one stubborn cat has also figured out how to get his way, but it takes effort to do so. I love how puppies can see through the door so they know what they are going through. Immediately after installation, I felt a decrease in heat around the door. It really helped with internal temperature control. I can't say much about the weather protection. The door opens onto a covered porch, so the wind rarely reaches the door. It definitely protects against the wind. I had strong wind several times, I heard it push but it never opened this dog door. I'm in Northeast Texas. Overall: I am very happy to find this dog door. Key Points: *Fits into an existing hole in the door*.
