Review on WeaKnees TiVo Roamio Replacement Fan Kit: Enhance Cooling for Base Roamio and Roamio OTA - Includes Tools by Tim Sterling

Rocks bouncing in an aluminum can. The noise is GONE!

Ordered this fan to replace the original fan in my TiVO Roamio OTA 1TB. I would have gone for a cheaper fan but this was readily available and came with tools to quickly remove an existing fan. The original fan in my Roamio dashcam lasted about 17 months but kept getting louder, especially after a reboot or a power outage. The recent power outage was the last straw. The fan made a loud "rocks bouncing rocks in a soup can" sound for more than 24 hours after power was restored, and it never stopped. I needed a quick fix so I bought this fan due to next day availability. Be sure to watch the WeaKnees video when installing a new fan. They make the process easier. A few notes: if you have a 13mm socket and a flathead screwdriver, the coax nut and washer will come loose quickly. I would recommend having a compressed air canister on hand for this project as mine was full of dust inside. I took the box outside and blew out all the dust. I was surprised how much was left after 17 months of use. Also, I only reinstalled the top 2 screws out of the 4 holding the fan. Just in case I sealed the other 2 screws inside the unit. I know I will need to replace this fan in the future as it is prone to breakage and I don't want to remove the motherboard again. Next time the process will be much faster. I recommend this fan if you're looking for some peace and quiet in a hurry, but I wish WeaKnees had sold a fan without tools. This will reduce costs for those who already have torx bits, sockets and flat head screwdrivers like I already have. To save costs next time, I'll order a cheaper fan and take a risk. That being said, WeaKnees is a great seller and I highly recommend buying TiVO gear directly through them.
