I heard a hiss - water got inside the thermostat onto the heating element - it started working like a boiler - I took it out of the socket in time. Among other things, the built-in temperature sensor over time after the 2nd year of use gave a large error to the lower side and, at a set temperature of 24 or 25 degrees, heated the water 1, and later 2 degrees higher than desired - i. E. about 26 degrees. The suction cups degrade over time (bad plastic) causing the thermostat to not attach properly to the walls of the terrarium.
