Review on M&R Replacement Blade Sharpener - 10/Box by Karla Richter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is also my favorite sharpener and it has two holes for thicker ones.

What it works with and what it doesn't work with. Here's what I found: 1. No, they don't work with either M&R or Alvin bullets. The comment from the other post is correct: they are a bit wider and don't leave a huge gap. I haven't actually tried sharpening a pencil with it, but I can't see where the chips are going to go. 2. They are identical to the sharpener KUM Wood Cutter.3. They are also identical to the Kum 104.03.01 magnesium alloy rectangular pencil sharpeners with 1 hole and steel blade. This sharpener also comes with two extra blades, which are screwed into the side of the device. I added a long dot of KUM to the photo. You can clearly see that his blade is much larger and these replacement parts are not suitable for him.4. The M&R round 602 sharpener also works very well. This is also my favorite sharpener and it has two holes for thicker pencils. They also appear to be slightly narrower than the long-tipped KUM auto sharpener blades. This sharpener is a big disappointment by the way.6. They also perfectly match the blade of the Prismacolor Scholar sharpener. When I took out the original blade, I actually found an iron blade identical to the one I photographed below. Incidentally, this sharpener (or blade?) is not compatible with watercolor pencils. I also had trouble understanding which blades work with which sharpeners, and which sharpeners work well with both crayons and other pencils. All of the manual sharpeners above range from fair to excellent for sharpening a variety of crayons, but my most consistent performer is the M&R 602 with two round holes. Hope that helps!

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
