Newer model heavy-duty air-cooled motorcycles get very hot due to EPA-mandated air/fuel ratios and catalytic converters. The engine control system is designed to turn off the rear cylinder ignition when the engine is about to overheat. I looked for radiator fans as a solution for engine idle cooling, but most were oversized and intended for car radiators. This fan is the perfect solution. It has a waterproof motor and lots of CFM. I removed the horn assembly and replaced it with this fan mounted on a ⅛ inch thick steel frame that was attached to the horn's mounting point. I use a 12V mini-relay via a switch to turn on the fan at idle with brake lights or when riding the bike with the engine running. The cylinder heads never get hot over 220 degrees and I don't have to worry about the engine overheating and thanks to the quality of the Spal fan I don't have to worry about it getting wet, raining or washed out.
