After removing my old filter, I noticed CAI (Cold Air Intake) after a few gas fills, while slowly noticing each time. That the car worked better on acceleration and had much better mpg after about 3-5 on each fill up. This is an old worn/used CAI filter that was a bit torn and didn't appear to have been changed in several years. This is when we talk about Scion tC 2007 with 123,000 mileage. After a while I changed the filter as it was bought second hand with about 103k mileage. I wanted to clean the old one, but as soon as it failed, I realized it MUST have a new replacement. So overall it helped with acceleration and gas mileage; made a few other changes, but I doubt they had much of an impact. In case you're reading this and wondering if there were other changes, they were on the PVC (small pipe) on top of the engine (regulates the exhaust to a great extent) and used Lucas injector cleaners for a while, about half a gallon. Guessing all this TLC for my car has helped get it back to its best shape. (:
