Analog thermometers are always ready...no batteries needed...never. When you need them most, digital thermometers always seem to have a dead battery. With analog devices, the easy-to-read dial tells me exactly what's going on in my fridge and freezer. My freezer is in the garage and electrical codes require you to use a GFCI (ground fault circuit breaker) outlet. The chain broke, but this was not noticed until five days later, when all the meat had already thawed. I reinstalled the GFCI outlet which is behind a heavy filing cabinet making it difficult to access and bought these analog thermometers. Now I can check the temperature every time I go into the freezer. It is an indispensable device for temperature control in the freezer and refrigerator. It's certainly far better than throwing away hundreds of dollars' worth of meat because these outlets go out of business seemingly without warning. A simple short circuit for a nanosecond extinguishes all electricity.
